Bowties are cool

"I'm the Doctor. Well, they call me the Doctor; I don't know why. I call me the Doctor, too. I still don't know why."

((Eleventh Doctor RP)).

It doesn’t work out all that well…But, at least River hasn’t pulled out a gun on me. Yet.

askamypond:

But, what about River.

He repeated the question over and over again in his mind, but he couldn’t arrive at a response. Of course Amy was going to worry about River; River was her daughter, and even if their relationship was unconventional, at best, she cared. Amy Pond always cared; he knew she would always do the right thing, and that was one of the reasons why he’d been so selfish in making her stay with him: he could never let go of his Amelia Pond like this, his best friend.

“She’ll be alright. You Pond women are strong.” There was a sad smile on Amy’s face, but The Doctor couldn’t mirror that smile; there was only sorrow within him, sorrow and a fear of losing her - He’d tried to leave her once, he’d tried to save her and let her and Rory move on without him, but Amelia Pond was stubborn. She’d waited twelve years for him to come back for her; she’d managed to remember him even when he didn’t exist, of course she wasn’t going to let him go that easily, in the long run.

Williams.” She corrected him; startling him more than she would ever realise. “Amy Williams. I’m never going to go by that name; that name is never going to sound right for me…But that’s who I am, Doctor, you said it yourself: we need to see each other as we really are. I’m not little Amelia Pond anymore, and you’re not just some hero, now, you’re my-” Pausing, she brushed a few strands of red hair from her eyes, her entire expression appearing somewhat perplexed at the term she hated so much: “-Son-in-law.” He recalled that, once upon a time, she’d told him that their kiss the night before her wedding had been the thing to make her realise she was in love with Rory. Ever since she was a little girl, Amy Pond had had feelings for The Doctor; he’d been the central figure in her life…but, Rory Williams had been there throughout it all: Rory may not have been The Doctor, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t the one for Amy.

The Doctor didn’t get jealous. He wasn’t in love with Amy, but he was a daft old man who couldn’t let go. He kissed her forehead; he told her he loved her, and he still couldn’t. He sort of had River now, sort of; he wasn’t the settling down type. He would never own a house, or a car; he would never be a man who stuck around in one place to look after children, or anything like that…He would never allow himself to fully love another, especially one who he’d seen die; especially one after Rose. He wasn’t sure how much he cared for River; he hadn’t figured it all out yet, considering there crossed over timelines. River Song, however, was a part of Amelia Pond; a part of his Amelia Pond, and regardless of anything else, he would look out for her. For Amy.

In one brief swoop, The Doctor placed a kiss upon Amy’s forehead, and took a tight grip on her hand. He didn’t do that enough; he didn’t hold onto her hand enough, and he might not get many more chances to do that - For now, she may have wormed her way back into the TARDIS, but both of them knew that she couldn’t stay forever. “Come along, Pond. Can’t keep them waiting - Your husband, my…Wife.” The word still made him a little uneasy; as did the fact she was staring at him so intently now. She couldn’t tear her gaze away; her eyes locked upon his, their souls connecting completely. In one silent moment, everything was shared: every adventure, every emotion, every desire. In those few seconds, nothing existed but the other, nothing else mattered. Only three words rang through Amy’s mind: fishfingers and custard.

“I love you.” It was a simplistic sentence that tumbled from Amy Pond’s lips, and she meant it in nothing more than a completely platonic way. Feelings would always underlay, beneath her friendship with the mad man in the blue box, but he was still just her best friend; she still had Rory. “You, Raggedy Man, are my best friend, and whatever happens…Don’t forget me, okay? Don’t forget me…And take care of her. Take care of River for me; I’m never going to get to raise my baby, but you can take care of her. I trust you with my life; I trust you with her - I don’t care if you love her, or not, just look after my baby, please.”

He knew he would. No matter what, he would try and be there for her; there was nothing he wouldn’t do for Amelia Pond, and therefore, nothing he wouldn’t do for River Song. She may have been ‘Amy Williams’ on some level, but she’d always be a Pond, and as he kissed her forehead, in a silent reponse, he knew that, in this regeneration, at least, nothing would mean more to him than the Ponds. Mad, impossible Amelia Pond…He was never going to forget her.

I was a kissogram for a reason.

Taking about it made her nervous. Honestly? To Amelia Pond, there was nothing more scary than commitment. It was complex; she’d only arrived at the fear because of him. She’d spent all that time waiting for The Doctor, and she couldn’t bring herself to commit to anything, just in case he ever came back. She hadn’t wanted to get some serious job, like the majority of people she knew back in Leadworth Comprehensive had, just in case he came back, and she could travel with him; she became a kissogram, a job she could easily quit, easily get out of…When she and Rory had finally given in and gotten together, she’d only let him be her ‘kind of boyfriend’, so she didn’t have to feel guilty if The Doctor ever came back.

It was all about him. She’d dicosvered, years back, that she was in love with Rory Williams. And yet, the moment her Raggedy Man had returned, she’d dropped everything. Commitment terrified Amy, no thanks to him, and she wasn’t sure she could ever go back to get married: she was scared, he was running, and she could run with him for as long as she wanted. Still, she was about to tell him now; her mouth was open, and although she slowed the punchline from coming, but letting their mouthes meet for a second, she let the words blurt out against his lips, her eyes squeezing shut as the admittance tumbled out into the open. “I’m getting married in the morning.”

He shifts slightly. Married? Married? So, she was engaged. And there he was quite happily kissing her. “Ah. Married. Amelia, right.” The mad man straightens out his bow tie, looking at her, feeling a little uncomfortable. He wanted to keep going but how could he if she was marrying some other man? “Then why are you kissing me?”

Smiling at him briefly, Amy shook her head, somewhat quickly, her eyes still locked upon him. “Wrong? Don’t be daft, no.” Was it wrong? She wasn’t even sure anymore; she didn’t know what she wanted, who she wanted…She just didn’t know. Rory was…She loved Rory - But, he wasn’t here, was he? They were currently alone in the TARDIS; completely alone, and it was hard to ignore the lust coursing through her body. “You know that big thing I keep saying I need to be back for, in the morning?”

In the morning? He nods. He sort of remembered, though he spent most of his time not thinking about it. The Doctor was running, so he didn’t care if she was too. Most people he travelled with were running from something and he hadn’t want to pry into what Amy was running from. “Yes, Pond?”

Well, that made him him nervous. He smiles, though it’s a little uncomfortable. He’s not quite sure what she means, but he chooses to simply go with it. “Right…I…are you sure, Pond?” Nervously, he attempts to free his bow tie, but still moves himself closer towards her.

“Positive.” Amy mumbled, letting her grasp lighten on his bowtie, her lips meeting his again for only a second. “Wait. Okay, Doctor…I should proably tell you this now.” Finally, she was relenting; she knew she should probably tell him the real reason she had to be back home ‘in the morning’, before things went any further.

"What do you need to tell me, Amelia?" He asks, looking at her curiously. "Is something wrong?"

He shakes his head. Nothing was wrong, exactly. “I just…What exactly are you wanting from this?” He speaks softly. He’s not really sure how to explain - He’s not one for just doing this with his companions, especially just on whimsy. “You’re human, you’re…you’re Amy. I don’t know what can happen with us, Amelia. There was a girl, once. Rose Tyler. I…let myself fall in love with her. Then I lost her. I’m not sure I can do that again, Amy.”

Unable to help herself, Amy giggled; shaking her head. “Oh, Doctor. Trust me: I’m not looking for anything all that…Longterm.” Still, she was listening now - Rose Tyler? Who exactly was that? She was engaged to Rory, and yet she’d never been jealous before, but now…Here she was feeling jealous over some girl The Doctor had once loved. “You don’t need to be in love with me, Doctor. That’s not what I’m looking for.” She assured him, grabbing him by the bowtie, to pull him nearer to her.

Well, that made him him nervous. He smiles, though it’s a little uncomfortable. He’s not quite sure what she means, but he chooses to simply go with it. “Right…I…are you sure, Pond?” Nervously, he attempts to free his bow tie, but still moves himself closer towards her.
